In a pastoral letter, the Ukrainian Catholic bishops of Canada invite people to pray, fast, and act in support of their brothers and sisters in Ukraine. The bishops express the view that, like the crises the Ukrainian people have experienced in their history, including Holodomor (the Great Famine of 1932-33), the intent of the current war is “to erase the identity and history of the Ukrainian people.”

In the appeal, the Ukrainian bishops invite parishioners to offer prayers, to fast, and to act to support and stand with Ukraine. The letter lists many ways to act with charity through donations to local parish communities, through Aid to the Church in Need – Canada, or several other charities.

Since the start of the war, Aid to the Church in Need has provided more than seven million dollars in aid to internationally displaced people and refugees in Church-owned institutions and has supported pastoral staff who accompany the population with sacraments and spiritual guidance.
