The Archdiocese of Toronto invites the faithful to pray for the people of Venezuela and to support humanitarian relief efforts following the devastating earthquakes that struck the country on June 24. Two powerful earthquakes—a magnitude of 7.2 followed just 39 seconds later with a magnitude of 7.5 near Yumare/San Felipe in Yaracuy State, have caused catastrophic damage across much of the country.

The hardest-hit areas include Caracas, La Guaira, and surrounding coastal regions, where buildings collapsed, roads and bridges were damaged, and power and communications have been disrupted. Authorities declared a national state of emergency, while teams from Venezuela and numerous international partners continue to search for survivors.

As of June 29, official reports indicate more than 1,400 people have died, 3,000 people have been injured, thousands are reported missing and tens of thousands of families have been left homeless.

The Archdiocese of Toronto will accept donations and channel funds through our Catholic partners in South America to support relief efforts underway. You can donate online by clicking here. You may also donate through your local parish or through the Archdiocese of Toronto’s Donations Processing Centre at: 437-529-1287.

Please continue to keep the people of Venezuela, those who have lost loved ones, the injured, and all emergency responders in your prayers during this time of great suffering.
