Statement from Cardinal Thomas Collins on the Appointment of Dr. David Sylvester as President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of St. Michael’s College (USMC) in the University of Toronto:

As Chancellor of the University of St. Michael’s College (USMC), I am delighted to welcome Dr. David Sylvester as the 8th President and Vice-Chancellor of the university. Dr. Sylvester is eminently qualified to fill this important role, given his already numerous contributions to Catholic higher education. I have no doubt that he will be committed to serving the students and faculty faithfully and diligently, drawing on his vast experience from King’s University College, Corpus Christi College and St. Mark’s College.

I very much look forward to working with Dr. Sylvester as he prepares to take on this important role.

I would also like to extend my profound gratitude to outgoing President David Mulroney who, since 2015, has provided inspiring leadership, weaving the thread of faith through his work and his presence on campus. His passion for Catholic higher education is evident and he has successfully introduced a number of initiatives that will bear fruit for years to come. We are grateful for his dedicated service to the university.

Please join me in offering our prayers and best wishes for both Dr. Sylvester and President Mulroney in the days ahead. We also pray for the students, faculty and the whole community of the University of St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto.
