On Friday, April 18, Frank Cardinal Leo, Metropolitan Archbishop of Toronto presided at the 3 p.m. Good Friday service at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica. Considered the holiest day of the year for Christians worldwide, Good Friday recounts the death of Jesus through the reading of the Passion.

A central part of our gathering on Good Friday is also the Veneration of the Cross, a visual reminder of Christ’s death and the ultimate sacrifice made for each one of us.

On this day, the Church also offers prayers for the needs of believers and the entire world. This includes prayers for the Church, the Pope, all Christians, the Jewish community, those who do not believe in Christ, and those in positions of leadership.

Holy Communion is distributed towards the end of the Good Friday service using hosts consecrated on Holy Thursday, connecting us from the Last Supper to the Our Lord’s ultimate sacrifice.

Lord Jesus Christ, on this Good Friday, we humbly come before you, mindful of the immense sacrifice made for each one of us. Forgive us our sins and grant us the grace to turn away from all that separates us from your love.
