At Holy Name Parish, the anniversary of the consecration of our beautiful church building takes place every year on March 14th.
Our church building was officially consecrated on March 14th, 1926. This means that March 14th, 2026 will be the 100th anniversary of the consecration of our parish church.
It might seem that we have already celebrated a 100th anniversary. Indeed, such a celebration did take place in 2014, but that was the anniversary of the establishment of the parish community. The church building itself had not yet been constructed, and it was not until 1926 that the building was officially dedicated and opened.
To mark this momentous occasion, we will be having a major celebration on that day. Most importantly, a very special guest will be with us: on Saturday, March 14th, 2026, the 5 pm Mass will be celebrated by His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo, the Archbishop of Toronto. This will be a great blessing for our parish community and the first time that Cardinal Leo will be visiting Holy Name.
More details about this celebration will come, and beginning in early January we will begin to make preparations. For now, I only ask that all of you mark that date on your calendars, in the hope that as many parishioners as possible will be able to attend. The anniversary itself falls on a Saturday, and so hopefully many of you who normally attend the Sunday morning Mass will be able to make a change in your schedules.
I will also be extending an invitation to former pastors and priests who have served at Holy Name in the past. They are all an important part of our history, and I am sure that many of you will be happy to see them again on the altar.
For almost 100 years, the parish church of Holy Name has stood as one of the major landmarks on the Danforth, one of Toronto’s most iconic streets. We are all blessed to be part of such an amazing community.
