The start of the school year is an exciting time for many. Parents pack hearty lunches to fuel their children’s growth and learning. But for Jinny and her six- and eight-year-old sons, hunger overshadows their anticipation. As they lay their heads on their pillows, their stomachs rumble. “I’m living in a shelter right now with my boys, who are always hungry,” Jinny shares. "It’s hard to tell them they must go to bed that way.” How can we accept that children sleep with empty stomachs, dreaming of a warm meal?
September is Hunger Action Month. Recent data reveals that over 1 million people in Ontario visited a food bank in the past year (Feed Ontario). Food insecurity continues to devastate families across the province and our community. In response to this urgent need, ShareLife, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Toronto, and an anonymous donor are committing to raise $750,000 to end this cruel hunger crisis. Now is a critical time and your compassion matters more than ever. We invite you to support the ShareLife Parish Campaign, which will continue to assist meal programs and food banks that help struggling families across the archdiocese. Will you extend a helping hand to them?
Thanks to the FoodShare program at Rosalie Hall - an agency you support through ShareLife - Jinny can now send her little ones to school with snacks. More importantly, your generous heart has given her hope. Jinny explains, “Now, I can focus on trying to make a future.” Your support today can fill backpacks with nourishing meals, allowing students to focus on learning instead of battling hunger.
Thus far we have raised $38,826.50 toward our goal of $46,000.
Please give at the parish using a ShareLife envelope, online through our parish website, or at sharelife.org/donate.
Thank you to all who have donated to the ShareLife Campaign!
